California Lt. Gov. Mona Pasquil to be FANHS national conference speaker
“Lt. Gov. Mona Pasquil FANHS conference speaker”
by Dr. Fred Cordova
Seattle (FANHS National) – Simeona (Mona) Viernes Pasquil – the first woman, more importantly the first Filipino American, to be appointed acting Lieutenant Governor of the State of California – has verbally agreed “unanimously” to be the principal speaker at the Filipino American National Historical Society’s 13th National Conference July 24 in Seattle. Lt. Gov. Pasquil will speak at the conference’s Saturday evening dinner. The three day conference is being held at Seattle University.
A third-generation Pinay from Sacramento, Calif., Mona - as all of her friends call her - was an active participant in FANHS’ Fifth National conference in 1994 at San Francisco.
Mona’s parents, Cornelio and Connie Viernes attended the First Young Filipino Peoples’ Far West Convention in Seattle. That 1971 gathering, earmarked as the “Birth of the Filipino American Movement,” has spurred the 2010 FANHS conference theme, “Quest for Emergence – A Retrospective.” A 1971 reunion will be held the Tuesday before the conference opening.

Mr. Ventura, I miss you dearly good sir.
We killed this piece.
Dine and dash in these fields of the unopposed
Pick and choose whom you love and loath
Words shall be unheard and rather unfathomed
Curtain call, take your bow now,
I hope you accomplished everything you thought you would.
